UNDERGRADUATES; Some things you should know:
- You may request information from a professional athletic organization concerning your professional market value without affecting your amateur status.
- You can seek advice from an attorney or agent but no oral or written contracts can be made. Also, the attorney or agent may not have contact with the professional sports organization on your behalf. This would be considered representation. His role can be only in an advisory capacity for so long as you are an undergraduate.
- You can enter the NBA of NFL Draft one time during your collegiate career without jeopardizing eligibility, provided that you are not drafted by any team and provided that you do not have an agreement with an agent. If you are not drafted and do not have an agent, those who entered the NBA Draft must declare their intention to resume intercollegiate athletics within 30 days following the draft. Those who entered the NFL Draft must declare their intention to resume intercollegiate athletics within 72 hours following the draft.
- NBA Draft early entry candidates (high school seniors and college underclassmen who have declared themselves eligible for the NBA Draft) have the right to withdraw their names from consideration for the Draft by notifying the NBA of their decision in writing no later than 1 week before the draft.
- In order to determine how high you might be drafted, your institution's Professional Sports Counseling Panel may contact a professional sports team or professional scouting service to request that information regarding your potential.
- As an enrolled student-athlete, you may accept expenses from the NBA, but NOT from individual team(s), to attend a pre-draft camp.
- Your coach, in any manner, cannot market your ability or reputation to a professional sports organization but he can give game tapes upon request - with no strings attached.
- You, or your relatives, cannot accept any benefits from an agent or another individual based on your athletic ability or you will lose your amateur status and college eligibility.
